Hello, everyone!

Our last vodcast was about fear. It is timely since it was Halloween! Like my previous episodes, I did my research using reliable sources. These works are from experts. I also pitched in my insights and my experiences about this topic.

But first, let me ask you. What are you scared of?

Everybody experiences fear right from the moment we are born. As we grow older, we develop our own set of fears. I talked about the three types of fears and the five things that we never knew about fear.

Afterward, I shared an article by Amy Morin, a psychotherapist. From there, I discussed the top ten fears that hold people back in life.

  • Change – Changes can be scary. But for us to grow and progress, we must embrace changes.

  • Loneliness – We, humans, are social beings and love to live among the people who love us. But we also need to find time to be alone. We must learn how to be comfortable with only our own thoughts.

  • Failure – Failure is part of the process of achieving our goals. On the bright side, we know something that doesn’t work. Failure also leads us closer to what fits us.

  • Rejection – Rejection can hurt, but it’s not that bad. It gives you a new perspective so you can improve your next time.

  • Uncertainty – Uncertainties can be our opportunities to grow, to grab something new. Let us remind ourselves that we faced a lot of uncertainties and still survived!

  • Something bad happening – Assurance is the key here. Ensure to have backup plans, as well.

  • Getting hurt – Some things in life are worth getting hurt for. When you face the hurt, it makes you stronger.

  • Being judged – Through social media, everyone is trying hard to put their best foot forward. Sometimes, it breeds envy and insecurity. If that happens, find a life coach that will help you.

  • Losing freedom – Remember that we have free rein to make choices. And the right choices grant us the freedom we enjoy.

Because of these, here are my five life hacks that I personally use to combat my own fears

  1. Breathwork. I recommend the 4-7-8 breathing technique. I do that before a speaking engagement or workshop.

  2. Self-affirmations. Build yourself up and own it!

  3. Meditation and mindfulness. Being in control of your thoughts helps, even under pressure.

  4. Find logic when it comes to your fear. Do something that may help you overcome it. Set backup if needed. Be assured that everything’s going to be okay.

  5. Approach a professional. This allows you to go deep, unbury the causes, and do steps toward healing.

Fears are normal but don't let them stop you. Life is too beautiful to live in fear.

Hello, everyone!

For our last episode on the Wellness Angel Channel, we talked about decoding tax and accounting stress.

I used to hate numbers. I wasn’t fond of anything that was math related. But when I became an entrepreneur myself, I realized that I must learn the importance of these numbers and terms to manage my business.

For this session, I invited my friend and fellow coach, Coach Aiet de la Torre. She is the co-founder of XDT and Company Inc. With her expertise and experience, she shared her tips and insights on the typical roadblocks entrepreneurs and freelancers encounter in their businesses. She even answered questions relating to compliance and filing from our live audience.

Coach Aiet first described the types of clients her company encounters. Then she discussed the typical roadblocks her clients would come across. That's why she gave tips on managing our business and being compliant with governing bodies.

  • Focus on your core competencies. Do what you love and what you’re good at.

  • Delegate the tasks you’re not so good at to other people who can do them well. It lessens stress and allows you to pay more attention to your strengths.

  • When faced with something difficult, try to understand it.

  • To have quality clients, register your business. Professionalize it! It helps you to gain the trust of your clients more.

  • For those who are filing their own documents and taxes, always visit the BIR website. This is to keep you posted on tax updates and due dates for tax collection. Use the internet to your advantage and pay online if you have the option to.

  • Prepare a business contingency plan. It pays to be a step ahead.

  • For those who got affected by Covid or had to stop business for several reasons, get a clearance from BIR to close. That way, your dues won’t pile up, and you’d be able to start with a clean slate.

  • Choose someone diligently. They will care about you and the business you do.

  • It always counts to join a community that will support you. You make new connections and meet new mentors. Learn the wisdom imparted by someone more experienced, and prevent yourself from committing the same mistakes.

This session is jam-packed with tips and tricks that will help us manage our business. There is happiness in doing things correctly the first time. If you are part of team replay, feel free to watch it on my Facebook page: @wellnessangel.

For the 14th episode of Wellness Angel Channel last Tuesday, I discussed how breathing can change your life.

But first, let me ask. How do you breathe? Are you breathing properly?

Like at every start of my podcast, I always ask our viewers to take deep breaths from their bellies to help them focus on the present. In this episode, I briefly talked about this article about breathwork from the Guardian entitled “How to Take the Perfect Breath” which was published in August 2020.

Basically, breath work has its benefits:

  • Better sleep

  • Brings you to the present moment. Practice mindfulness

  • Improve digestion

  • Builds the immune system

  • Lessens anxiety

  • Lowers blood pressure

I also shared my observations and experiences as a coach about breathing. I noticed that most of my students are not breathing properly. So how do we check if we are breathing properly?

Here is a simple way.

  • First, straighten your back, keep your shoulders squared, and your chin parallel. Just make sure your airways are open.

  • Next, put one hand on your chest and the other on your belly.

  • Then start breathing. Be mindful as you breathe in and out.

  • Observe which part is expanding and contracting as you breathe.

  • If you notice that your chest is the one rising, it means you’re not breathing properly.

I also shared a few breathwork techniques we can apply in most situations. First is the 4-7-8 breathing technique by Dr. Wiles. Back in 2019, I often experience panic attacks. This technique helped me a lot. It helped me collect myself first before I face an unruly person or someone I don’t get along with well.

So if you need a bit of a boost before you face something nerve-wracking such as an important meeting or public speaking, here’s how to do the 4-7-8 technique.

  • Inhale through your nose for 4 counts

  • Hold your breath for 7 counts

  • Exhale through your mouth for 8 counts

  • Repeat the cycle four times

  • If needed, you can repeat the full cycle after 10 minutes to avoid dizzy spells for holding your breath

I also shared the alternative nose breathing technique called Nadi Shodhana, a popular Pranayama among yogis. It aims to cleanse your energy, remove toxins, and bring balance to both sun (right) and moon (left) sides of the body. I demonstrated the hand position and how to breathe through you each nostril alternately for balance.

You can do this technique anytime and anywhere. If you feel sleepy during the day, you can use this technique to power up your right (sun) energy channel. This is to wake you up. Then if you want better sleep quality, boost your left (moon) energy channel to get some ZZZs! Think of it as a life hack!
