I am aware of my flaws. I have called myself out numerous times. From bingeing on salty food to making little blunders during the flight, an inner voice would pop up and say, "Hey, Joana, that's enough! Let's fix that right away!”

It was a long and bumpy ride to be what I am today.

Even if other people don’t immediately notice our mistakes, we should not simply shrug them off. We should create ways to fix our errors without others pointing them out for us. If our instincts warn us that we made a mistake, we should accept, forgive ourselves and resolve it right away.


As humans, we must recognize that we are not flawless. We trip, stumble and fall every now and then. Yes, we wanted everything to go as perfectly planned, but there are a lot of things that happen beyond our control. The older we get, the more stubborn we become. We feel wiser, thus, humility gets harder and harder to swallow. There’s no age limit to being afraid of pointing out our own mistakes — and promising to do better next time.


Calling ourselves out is a form of self-discipline which entails the ability to own our shortcomings, and embrace change. If we want to change something in our life, we must begin the change process within ourselves.

Recognizing our flaws is the first step toward self-actualization. Let’s turn weaknesses into strengths.

I was an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) for 9 years. I was a flight attendant based in the desert, but I was globe trotting most of the time. Despite this wonderful lifestyle, there were a lot of times I felt homesick. Moments when I simply missed my family. I felt awful about missing Christmases, New Year’s eves, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions with my loved ones. I had this big goal back then. To live a life of joy and meaning once I decided to return home permanently.


My resolve to come home for good was not an impulse decision. It was not an easy one, I tell you. I had to break down that big goal into objectives. I made sure to accomplish my objectives first which served as my steps towards my goal. I made tons of preparations. I prepared myself holistically — emotionally, financially, and mentally. I even asked God for a sign before I had finally decided to clip my wings after so many years of flying.

Why should we break down big goals into objectives? Objectives give us more defined and measurable steps to achieving our goals. These tell us what targets we should be hitting. These prepare us for the bigger things that we might encounter. These also help us not to get too overwhelmed and maintain our focus. When we accomplish our objectives, we hit two birds with one stone. We get to fulfill something. Plus, we are a step closer to our goals.


Think of our big or long-term goals as if we’re eating steak. Wait! I’ve been pescetarian for 5 years now. Let’s change that to lobster. We don’t simply attempt to gobble up the whole lobster. We might end up choking and ruin our appetite! We cut it into small pieces so we can bite it down easily, separating the shell from the meat carefully. We get to savour its firm, yet soft and smooth texture with much gusto. We take the time to appreciate the taste, along with the actual dining experience.


Objectives allow us to appreciate the journey. They become our milestones for growth. Small wins turn into big wins.

Last June 21, 2021, it was International Yoga Day. Yoga is so much more than just bodily positions or asanas. It leads us through a transformational process that changes us physically, psychologically, and emotionally. It assists us in discovering our genuine selves and finding more significance in our lives.


We figure out how to live a life of gratitude, peace and holistic prosperity. It is an inward journey. We shed our egos to be ready to make a difference in someone's life.


Many studies have been conducted on how yoga programs could impact the workforce. Most of these studies had significantly positive results. This proves how much yoga can do things for our lives. What are the perks for doing yoga? Here are some benefits which are backed up by studies:

3. Improves well-being

4. Less musculoskeletal pains

5. Better sleep quality

6. Reduces negative affectivity and aggression

7. More work mindfulness and engagement

Yoga can be done even at the comfort of your home. Look for a regimen that fits you and stick to it. There are also a number of yoga instructors ready to help you! Maintaining peak physical condition is critical at work. Being physically healthy entails being mentally and emotionally well also.


Remember... take care of yourself first, so you can take good care of others and all the rest of what you value most in life. Namaste!
