If you hear the word wellness, what is the first thing that pops up inside your mind?

Many people tend to associate wellness with physical activities. They are partially correct. Physical health is just one of the aspects that help us to live a life of wellness.

With so many things we need and could do, sometimes our bodies get overwhelmed. We get stressed, sluggish, and sick. Don't you just hate it when you're unable to do anything?

What habits should we build to take good care of our bodies? Here are three ways to get started

  • Get moving!

Physical activities, such as exercise, yoga, jogging, are great ways to keep your body at its optimum. It tones your muscles, strengthens your stamina, and increases energy.

  • Have a proper diet!

You are what you eat. Your body needs nourishment and satisfaction from hunger. Eat balanced foods filled with nutrients. It's alright to have cheat days once in a while!

  • Catch on some shut-eye.

Our bodies need rest to heal and repair. Having enough rest means we restore our energy to live our lives meaningfully.

Our body is our vessel. It allows us to do meaningful things. We get to think outside the box, appreciate nature, reach out to our loved ones, and build communities. Let us take care of our bodies well so we could achieve peak performance in whatever we do!

Wellness means continuous flourishing more without neglecting the bare minimum. It helps and encourages us to make the most out of our lives. It is about making the right choices for ourselves and an ongoing pursuit towards the optimal quality of life.

Some of us probably thought that wellness is just our overall physical, mental, and emotional health. In reality, it is more than that. It is more than eating well, increasing mindfulness, and being positive.

Here are the different dimensions of wellness:

  • Physical - this involves enriching your physical well-being through adequate nutrition, physical activity, proper sleep, etc.

  • Mental - this means keeping your mind sharp through mentally-stimulating activities such as puzzles, learning, and problem-solving activities.

  • Emotional - this is to give room for us to understand, to be understood, to create boundaries, and express ourselves.

  • Occupational- this is wherein we find personal meaning and fulfillment in the work we do.

  • Social- this is how we create meaningful connections and engagements with others and our communities.

  • Environmental- Promoting positive interdependence between human activities, choices, well-being, and global health.

As much as it is ideal to give ample attention to each aspect, we mustn’t forget that wellness shouldn’t be stressful. There is no set deadline for achieving it.

Some habits can be hard to drop. Adjustments have to be made. Changes do not happen overnight. It’s alright to take it easy and take baby steps.

If you need a helping hand to push you towards your wellness goals, don’t be afraid to seek help. Your wellness mentor is someone who will assist you in achieving your goals and teach you new techniques in finding balance in all aspects of your life.

May your path towards wellness be filled with serenity, happiness, and love!
