Finding Sense In Scents

After a long day of work, I look forward to practicing meditation to unwind and clear my mind. Nothing beats choosing the right aroma to set the mood. I use different smells depending on my mood.

Aromatherapy is a treatment that uses essential oils taken from plants to improve our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It aims to improve to keep our spirits up and lessen the pain we are experiencing.

It has also been performed in different countries like Egypt, China, and India for hundreds of years. Essential oils can be used in different ways, through diffusing, topical treatments, inhalers, and facial masks!

Want to start your journey in aromatherapy? The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy has made a list of commonly-used oils and their uses.

  • Lavender: It not only relieves anxiety but also cures burns and bruises. It also soothes itching and bug bites.

  • Peppermint: For muscle aches and pains. It alleviates nausea and prevents migraines.

  • Chamomile: an excellent sleep aid. Muscle spasms and cramps, particularly menstrual cramps, are reduced.

  • Tea tree: Excellent for immune system support. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

  • Lemon: An antioxidant that relieves tension and is excellent for cleaning.

  • Lemongrass: most effective as an insect repellent.

  • Rose: Rejuvenates cells and alleviates stress and anxiety.

When applying essential oils topically, remember to use a carrier oil such as jojoba oil. It protects your skin from irritation, but it does not interfere with the therapeutic action of essential oils.
