"This will come in handy someday,” I told myself as I took another certification class unrelated to my profession. The next thing I knew, I had taken up so many continuing education units.
On the bright side, those workshops and distance studies paid off. They became my investment to my next chapter after working in the aviation industry for so long.
Learning and experiencing new things is a form of self-investment. We work hard and barely have time to rest. Just like our physical bodies, our souls are also seeking ways to find rest.
When our souls need replenishment, we should not ignore it. We must attend to our spiritual needs. If our spirit is down, it affects our whole well-being.
Self-investment is one of the best gifts you give to yourself. It allows you to enjoy the fruits of your labor, and lets you live life more enjoyably. You will never know how life-changing something can be until you experience it!
Do you want to attend that virtual workshop simply because your favorite speaker is there? Go for it! Want to try some DIY projects you saw online? Just do it! Want to enroll in a Japanese class? Go ahead and learn a new language. When it comes to education and growth, splurge!
Do not box yourself in. You can't do that to yourself.
Every investment we make in our life is so worthwhile. It's a win-win situation at any angle. We don't lose anything, and we do get something valuable in return.
That is why self-investment always brings self-profit. Let’s live a life ignited. Subscribe to my blog!

Small talks tend to be belittled because of how “monotone, formulaic, and shallow" — they can be. Some of us are not fond of it but we can’t escape it. We always encounter small talk in the family, in our workplace, and even online!
We should not underestimate how big small talk can be.
Why? For starters, small talk is an excellent ice breaker. It helps us remove the awkwardness and let others feel more at ease. Small talk allows us to form interactions, get to know individuals, and forge meaningful ties.
Small talk can build trust and rapport, which is very important in the workplace. It is, after all, one way to meet people who share our interests. It makes us feel less alone and helps us find people with whom we can get along.
We discover people beyond their appearances. For example, the gentle-looking new hire is weight-lifting right after work. Your intimidating-looking boss can be an active member of a knitting club!
Small talk aids us in learning new things and keeping us up to date. We give out and receive knowledge at the same time. During my travels, I love having small talks with the locals. Because of that, it made my travel experiences more fun and memorable! Beyond that, I love doing it with my guests onboard the aircraft. It never fails to deliver without a cinch any form of unexpected service failure recovery, because the small talks created very forgiving customers before any mishap occurs.
Small talk is anything but small and shallow. It deepens our relationships with others, creates bridges, and broadens our minds.

“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking," Friedrich Nietzsche, a well-known German philosopher.
That is something I can attest to! Whenever I hit a mental slump, I go for a walk. Even walking on a treadmill helps me gather my thoughts. In every step I take, my mind gets refreshed. I can feel brimming ideas up in my head.
I can picture my ideas coming to fruition and see what happens next. With a clear head and a burst of creativity, I feel more inspired after walking!
A Stanford study has concluded that a person’s creative thinking improves while walking. It was observed that 100% of the participants who walked have created at least one high-quality novel analogy.
It showed that walking significantly increased the participants' creativity levels than those who were sitting.
It does not matter whether you are indoors or outdoors, as long as you are walking. It also clears up our heads and allows us to refocus.
After walking, you can still retain your ideas after sitting shortly, so jot them down as quickly as you can.
Still in a slump? Why not stand up for a while and walk it out?
This is me at Dubai's Miracle Garden. It's the world's largest natural flower garden, occupying more than 72,000 square meters of over 300 million plants and flowers. I will never get tired of walking in a place like this.
