After a long day of work, I look forward to practicing meditation to unwind and clear my mind. Nothing beats choosing the right aroma to set the mood. I use different smells depending on my mood.

Aromatherapy is a treatment that uses essential oils taken from plants to improve our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It aims to improve to keep our spirits up and lessen the pain we are experiencing.

It has also been performed in different countries like Egypt, China, and India for hundreds of years. Essential oils can be used in different ways, through diffusing, topical treatments, inhalers, and facial masks!

Want to start your journey in aromatherapy? The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy has made a list of commonly-used oils and their uses.

  • Lavender: It not only relieves anxiety but also cures burns and bruises. It also soothes itching and bug bites.

  • Peppermint: For muscle aches and pains. It alleviates nausea and prevents migraines.

  • Chamomile: an excellent sleep aid. Muscle spasms and cramps, particularly menstrual cramps, are reduced.

  • Tea tree: Excellent for immune system support. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

  • Lemon: An antioxidant that relieves tension and is excellent for cleaning.

  • Lemongrass: most effective as an insect repellent.

  • Rose: Rejuvenates cells and alleviates stress and anxiety.

When applying essential oils topically, remember to use a carrier oil such as jojoba oil. It protects your skin from irritation, but it does not interfere with the therapeutic action of essential oils.

I am a proud Morena who considers herself beautiful!

We all have our moments of insecurities. It took me a long time before I managed to see myself as beautiful. I didn't like how dark and skinny I looked as I was growing up. I was also made fun of because of my skin color.

I used to look at the mirror then sigh. I felt insecure when I saw dark spots and deeper wrinkles. Then I tell myself that these flaws are completely normal! It's part of aging gracefully.

Later on, I realized that my self-worth can not be measured by my physical features.

Throughout my life, I've noticed that fads come and go. The same can be said of society's "conventional standard" of beauty. We may not look like the social media influencers and models we see, but we can always be our own standard of beauty.

Embracing our unique characteristics is the step towards self-love and self-improvement. Let us change our mindset. The reason we strive to enhance ourselves is that we love ourselves. When we put ourselves first, we glow differently.

We build our confidence from there.

I love reading! Nothing beats a good book and some warm grean tea for pastime. In my case, I enjoy self-help books the most. One of my favorite books would be The 22 (Non-Negotiable) Laws of Wellness by Greg Anderson.

Books are one of my life's constants. Their allure never fails to inspire me, so I wrote and published my book! Books are a way for writers to leave their imprint on the world. Their words will continue to live no matter how much time has passed.

Why should we keep reading no matter how old we get? Read on!

1.) Reading keeps our minds healthy

When we read, it stimulates our brains. We expand our vocabulary, boost our comprehension, and allow our imaginations to run wild. Research has also proven that reading helps in lowering the risk of dementia.

2.) Keeps our stress levels and blood pressure in check

Who would have thought that reading helps in keeping our physical health well too? There was a study that proved reading can promote our health the same way yoga and meditation do.

3. ) Improves concentration

Have you ever read such a good book that you didn’t notice how much time has passed? Guilty! Reading allows us to establish our focus on a single activity and banishes distractions!

4. ) Helps us sleep soundly

Many doctors recommend reading before going to bed. Make sure to read a printed book since the light emitted from our phones or tablets can keep us awake longer than we should.

5. ) Heightens our sense of empathy

When we read, it triggers our imagination. We could also feel the emotions expressed by the words written in the book. In turn, this hones our empathy so we can build and maintain social relationships.
